Flying in the bush can be a rewarding and engaging experience. The views from your seat in the aircraft can be spectacular, and there are many attractions en-route to your lodge. Sometimes you may even spot large animals from the air as you approach your airstrip. As our Bush flights are a shuttle service, we fly to more than one airstrip, and your particular departure point could be one of a number of stops. Most bush strips are located inside of the reserves. On landing, your Federal Air flight crew will introduce you to your lodge ranger, who will be waiting at the strip to take you to your respective lodge. Check out our Destination Guides to find out more on this. Landing on Bush AirstripsBush airstrips present different challenges to a more conventional airport, and the flights are subject to unique situations that do not affect conventional services. When animals are present, we work together with the game rangers and lodge staffs to ensure runways are clear of game and it is safe to land. Most game lodge airstrips are located a fair distance from the actual lodge. This is to ensure that guests at the lodge are not disturbed by the sounds of incoming and departing aircraft. Federal Air works closely with the lodges and ensures that noise pollution is kept to a minimum.
